What does the evidence say about these herbs?
| Herb | Evidence | In short |
|---|---|---|
| Chamomile | Tested as tea | The most common calming-tea ingredient. Trials of chamomile tea are few and small, the one placebo-tea trial we found showed no anxiety benefit, and the EU herbal monograph lists no calming or sleep use at all. |
| Lemon balm | Extract trials only | A lemony mint-family herb with traditional EU recognition for stress and sleep. The positive trials mostly used extracts or unspecified preparations; we found no controlled trial of lemon balm tea for anxiety or sleep. |
| Lavender | Tested as tea | Lavender tea has been tested in three small trials that all compared it with no drink at all. The strongest anxiety evidence is for a lavender-oil capsule, which is a different product. |
| Passionflower | Tested as tea | One of the few herbs tested as a tea against a placebo tea, with a small positive result for sleep quality. It should not be used in pregnancy. |
| Licorice root | Caution ingredient | Used in many blends for sweetness, not calm. It earns a caution flag because its glycyrrhizin can raise blood pressure and disturb heart rhythm. |
Evidence grades describe each herb in general, not this product. No trial we know of has tested The Republic of Tea Rest itself. How grades work.
